Bouquet - can this be done?

I really like dark red carnations for my own bouquet. It also doesn't hurt that they are readily available year-round and are pretty affordable. It would be great also because then my girls (in cranberry red dresses) would have white carnation bouquets.

In searching I saw this flower arrangement: http://www.teleflora.com/product.asp?id=...

What I was wondering is:

1 do you think a bouquet could be heart-shaped like this arrangement?

2 what do you think of this as a bouquet? is this too goofy/childish?

I'm debating between doing my own flowers and dealing with a florist, but for a shape like this, I'm betting that a florist might be able to pull it off.

What do you think?

Bouquet - can this be done?
That is BEAUTIFUL! Even at the 'deluxe' version, it's a great price. I would definitely have a florist do this. When it's a standard bouquet like this (like through teleflora or FTD), they have the directions how to make it.

I think it would be really striking and special!
Reply:Your dress is remarkably BEAUTIFUL! What a special choice! The flowers will be awesome with it! Report It
Reply:First off, I love your dress!

Secondly, I love the choice of flowers. I kinda like the heart shape to them. It's something I've never seen before so I like it. I wouldn't do a heart shape for your bouquet but if you wanted to do it for the bridesmaids then that would look pretty.

If you have flower girls, you can also make a garland with the carnations so they can wear in their hair.
Reply:I do not think its goofy or childish - I think it's unique and something you clearly like! Don't know how much time is before your wedding, but may be you could go buy some carnations and baby's breath and try to make this on your own? You would need wire - check Michael's they should have it there and you could always wrap the stems in a nice ribbon.... Craft stores like Michael's often have classes in things like this for little or no cost!
Reply:Honestly? It reminds me of the heart shaped arrangements you see at funerals. http://www.ftd.com/sympathy-funeral-ppr/...

It also seems like it would be odd to carry.

But, if you wanted to do it, it would be pretty easy to do yourself using the flowers, some floral tape, floral wire and a heart shaped form like this one: http://www.save-on-crafts.com/heartwreat...

Congratulations and best of luck!
Reply:I actually like the heart shape I think its cute not goofy or childish, you could get some bouquet crystals to put in there too

*although i looked at it again and maybe you could put the babys' breath throughout and not just on the outside

* i've never seen a heart arrangement at a funeral
Reply:Um ... I hate to say this, but the heart shape reminds me of a flower arrangement that you send to a funeral home for someone you cared about. While it sounds like a nice idea, it might remind people of the same thing. I would take a poll though, maybe I'm wrong.
Reply:Mm I agree with the previous poster that it might be a little goofy, but I certainly think it would be doable by a florist.

It'd be cute if you just happened to be getting married on Valentine's Day, though. %26gt;.%26gt;
Reply:I'm sure a florist could do a heart shaped bouquet with no problems. I think it is a great shape for a bridal bouquet.

didn't ashlee simpson have a red bouquet?
Reply:I think I like the color with the white, but not in a heart shape. I think it looks a little goofy.

I also think you might want more white than red to contrast with the dresses.

Good luck.
Reply:Beautiful dress - not sure about the heart shape and perhaps a little less red and more white. Red and white are striking though - I had those to my wedding 32 years ago.
Reply:I like the color selection, but not in that shape. It kind of reminds me of funeral flowers.
Reply:i really think they are beautiful but it didn't say what the deluxe and premium is
Reply:I think the bouquet is absolutely beautiful and unique. It's not childish, goofy or funeralish. That would look so nice against your gown, but I would add a little bit of white throughout the red carnations and have a smaller bouquet for the bridesmaids with just a little bit of red mixed in with their white carnations. I also like the ribbon on the bouquet. You could use a white ribbon/red hearts and your girls could have the red ribbon/white hearts. Great idea!! I think I'd have to check with a florist on this one though, the heart shape might be kind of hard to do on your own, but you've got lots of time--maybe make a trial one ahead of time to see how it turns out. Best wishes to you as you plan your wedding. If you want a heart shaped bouquet, have one. I think it's really nice!!
Reply:I think that sounds lovely and unique. For all the people talking about funeral flowers, I wouldn't worry about it.

First of all I don't think people will see the similarity unless you get one of those huge standing arrangements like the one Sarah G linked to. (Which I think is hideous and looks like a big mound of cauliflower, by the way lol.)

Secondly I had never seen a heart-shaped funeral arrangement (and I have been to more than my share of funerals...) until I saw that link, so I'd wager that a lot of people who are going to be at your wedding haven't either.

If that is what you like, then go for it! But I would def. have a florist put it together. It'll be one less thing to worry about and if they fall apart or look like crap (hopefully not!) you can get some money back instead of just wishing you'd hired a florist.

Congrats, and good luck!
Reply:I don't personally like the one you have picked out... it is definately more an arrangement than a bouquet. I just like something a little softer, since the pic you have given us is very 'bold' - and I guess that's where the 'childish' look comes in a little. I am certainly not saying that you can't have one... it is your wedding after all. I just think personally that something like this with the long leaves to make the heart is a little more soft and subtle and elegant...

Or the bouquet on the left is one of my favourites (although obviously not in red... and I don't really like the feather boa thing she has behind it?!)

As far as whether you should do it or if you should get a florist to do it - I would suggest the florist in most instances would do a better job. HOWEVER since you say you have time to try (and if you have the money) why not try and do it yourself? If it doesn't work in the practices you can always go back to the florist.

It is of course all up to you.
