Instead of a centerpiece, what about this...??

I know usually the centerpieces are either flowers or some candle-thing and you spend on this money on flower centerpieces only to have them die the next day....but I seen this and thought this could possible be a neat idea to have as my centerpieces (not the exact one but just an idea)......

I think this would be a neat idea and different than the traditional flowers or candles...the guest at the table would have something to munch on and put different types of dipping chocolates around the table for them to dip the fruits in. I figured the money would go to good use rather than all this money for flowers that are going to die anyways.

What do you think??

Instead of a centerpiece, what about this...??
I think it's a very nice idea...the only thing that I would do is make sure that you include a little sign that says something about the centerpieces being edible. The last thing you want is to spend the money on these and have no one eat them because no one thinks they are edible...but, I think it's a great idea. However, I would put something different on the headtable....don't want anything to messy next to your dress.
Reply:Wow! What a creative idea! I love it! :)
Reply:I think this is a really expensive centerpiece, very overpriced. Its actually very easy to make them yourself. You just need cookie cutters, a melon ballers, skewers, and a ridge cutter. But who wants to be making all those the day of the wedding. If you want edible centerpieces, they have what I believe they call take-away centerpieces that are made of lots of boxes that have candies etc. in them. When they are all together they look pretty good.

If you want something different that flowers or candles, there are a million other options that are very inexpensive, you just need to do some more research.
Reply:I think its a brilliant idea!!!
Reply:Very nice

Very pricey!!

If you can afford it - go for it!
Reply:great idea! Money well spent!!!
Reply:I agree with pspoptart. I think it looks great on paper but when guests show up and start munching you very quickly run into the problem of there being empty pots with sticks poking out, and the fruit browning. and dipping sauces being spilled everywere and not looking pleasant once people start dipping into them. but it's up to you.
Reply:Absolutely not. I find that edible arrangements are best when sending them to one person (in lieu of flowers). When its for a groups consumption it gets kind of nasty/gremy.
Reply:ppl are going to start eating it and then ur going to have a pot with empty sticks shooting up and nothing pretty to decorate the tables.
Reply:Depending on the vibe of your reception, I definately think it is a neat idea. How formal is the affair? It is a day wedding or an evening wedding? I think the answer to these questions matter. THe idea of the centerpiece is great, but you don't want something that won't fit with the rest of the reception, just because it is less of a waste of money and a more original idea.
Reply:Absolutely! I also liked an idea at one wedding I attended where they had mini cakes on each table with different black and white photos of the bride and groom while they were dating (at prom, graduation, on trips). It was a conversation starter as a centerpiece and after the couple did the cake thing at the main table we got to cut and eat the one at our table. No waiting, lines or hassle- It was great!
Reply:Very cool!! I saw those recently and thought they were a great idea. They are kind of pricey though so depends on if they fit your budget!
Reply:Awesome idea! It would definetly get people talking too. They would look really neat. Depending on your colours, you could ask for fruit that would match! Good luck! If I didn't have mine already I would steal your idea!
Reply:looks great and would think a lot more cost effective than a standard centerpiece, could also take place of dessert?!
Reply:I LOVE the eddible arrangements, they do an amazing job. I lke this idea...very creative!
Reply:i love the idea
Reply:No, no, no. The fruit browns and turns into gooey mess. Once guests start nibbling then all you have left for pictures is a basket with sticks poking out of it.

Been there, seen that, and quite frankly did not think it turned out as well in person as it did on paper.
Reply:I am kind of a germaphobe and the idea of other people eating and dipping fruit in sauces they are sharing with me grosses me out.. sorry.
Reply:Im a wedding planner and i see this as a decorative idea for an outdoor barbeque. This is not wedding decor. It's a great gift idea also. but not wedding. There are other things to use as center pieces if u dont want to use flowers and candles, and like many of the other comments before me stated, it will look tacky in ur photos and will kinda "trash up the place". they use shish kabob sticks and they'll be laying everywhere, on top of having the centerpiece eaten and an empty bowl just laying there!
Reply:i think that is a great idea! and totally origional which is fantastic
Reply:When I first read your question, I thought that was an AWESOME idea....I love the edible centerpieces as well, and I think they would work....but then I read some comments that it would look bad after people started eating it....I would suggest if youw anted to do this, that you have a note on the table asking people not to munch on the center peices until after "such and such" a time, say after the cake cutting and the first dance and all the pictures the photographer will be taking, any pictures taht in the background it would look horrible with emtpy sticks in the background.

OR you could do the edible centerpiece cookie arrangement and have the cookies be the "favor" for the guests to bring home. They wouldn't go bad like the fruit might.

Another option to do having to do with food instead of flowers is doing a big crystal bowl or glass cylender and put green apples and oranges in it with floating candles on the top. I went to a wedding that had this in August, and it was actually quite beautiful!

The point of the center peice is to bring atmopshere to a room, and I guess with the people eating them, the atmpsphere would die as the night went on.

It is true that flowers die, but if they are professional flowers, they do usually last at least a week. My SIL got married in November and we took a center peice home and it lasted almost 2 weeks! You could also do silk flowers, they are a lot cheaper than real, but still look very nice. You could do something very simple that would also look nice at a dining room table at home and let some of your guests take them home.

Definately if you're ok with the centerpeices disappearing, I think this idea would work, it would have a beautiful effect walking into the room. Anything you decide will look great!
Reply:Great idea. its your wedding do whatever you want.
Reply:That's a great idea! But, They can be quite expensive about $30 to $50 a bunch. I think it would be a very unique Idea.

And if you were to put chocolate dipping sauces you would have to keep the chocolate warm so it doesn't go hard. And that's another expense too.
Reply:I love it! I think it is a fabulous idea! I might do that at my wedding! Congrats on your wedding!
Reply:The fruit will start to to turn brown the longer its left out, and bacteria can grow very quick. Also, I personally would not want to snack on something everyone has had their hands on.
Reply:Cool, and definitely different, kudos
Reply:Here are my concerns with this:

1. Because it will clearly be the centerpiece, I think guests may be timid about devouring it. They may not do it, even if you tell them to. (which I definitely think you'd have to do to get even some of the guests to eat them!).

2. It will look kinda weird to have like half eaten centerpieces on the tables, b/c underneath the fruit they are not very pretty; they are like foam and stuff.

Totally your choice, but those would be my concerns.
Reply:I think it is a very sweet idea (hehe, I did not realize I was making a little joke, so sorry). I think it would give the guests a little treat to taste some fruits and chocolates during the meal. I think you might get a few compliements too. Very nice. I hope my advice helps. I am not that experienced with helping people with weddings, but I am trying.
