Math Story Problem?

Ashley, Samantha, Samuel, Kaylee, and Matthew are each making large bouquets for their parents. Each of their arrangements combines tulips and roses. They paid ninety-three cents for eah tulip and 2.38 for each rose.

Figure out how many roses are in each of their arrangements.

1. Kaylee wanted her arrangement to be 80.6% roses. She used 7 tulips in her arrangement.

2. Matthew bought five mor etulips and two more roses then Samuel. Together, the two of them spent a total of $56.79 on their boquets.

3. Samantha's bouquets consisted f thirteen flowers. Samantha spent $22.24 to make the bouquet.

4. Ashley wanted her arrangement to contain 80% tulips.

5. Ashley spent $6.10 on her arrangement.

10 points for an answer! thanks

Math Story Problem?
kaylee - 7 tulips and 29 roses

matthew - 15 tulips and 18 roses

samuel - 10 tulips 16 roses

samantha - 6 tulips 7 rose

ashley - 4 tulips 1 rose
Reply:# 1: Kaylee wanted her arrangement to be 80.6% roses.

It means that the tulip is only 19.4%.

The number of tulips is 7

19.4% of what number is 7

19.4% times x = 7

0.194x = 7

x = 7/.194

x = 36.08

x = 36 ====%26gt; total number of flowers in the bouquet

36 - 7 tulips = 29 roses

# 2 : Pass

# 3 : Samantha's bouquet consists of 13 flowers o which she spent $ 22.24

0.93T = the amount she spent on tulips

2.38R = the amount she spent on roses

0.93T + 2.38R = 22.24

Since the total flowers is 13, we can say that

13 - T = the number of roses or

13 - R = the number of tulips.

Let us subsitute the first one ( 13-R) to find the number of roses

0.93(13-R) + 2.38R = 22.24

12.09 - 0.93R + 2.38R = 22.24

1.45R = 22.24 - 12.09

1.45R = 10.15

R = 10.15/ 1.45

R = 7 ====%26gt; number of roses

13 - 7 = 6 ===%26gt; number of tulips

To check:

0.93 (6) + 2.38 (7) = 22.24

5.58 + 16.66 = 22.24

22.24 = 22.24

# 4 : This alone does not makes sense if you want a real number. Anyway the number of roses is 20% since the number of tulips is 80%

#5 : I answered it by trial and error

If there is only 1 roses,

6.10 - 2.38 = 3.72 / .93 = 4

If there are 2 roses,

6.10 - 2.38 -2.38 = 1.34/.93 = 1.441 not a whole number

If there 3 roses,

6.10 - 2.38 - 2.38 - 2.38 = - 1.040 cannot be

So the logical answer is the first one

R = 1 , T = 4

To check:

0.93(4) + 2.38 (1) = 6.10

3.72 + 2.38 = 6.10

6.10 = 6.10

If i have more time i will answer # 2
