My cat eats my silk plants. It's beautiful arrangement but she gnaws on the green leaves.?

My cat is an indoor cat and loves to gnaw at my green silk plants. Will this hurt her. First, I had to get rid of the real greens and now she is chewing on the silk green leaves surrounding the flowers. She doesn't touch the flowers. Is this harmful to her and will it make her sick. I can't monitor her 24/7.

Yes, the silk plants are harmful. They may cause bowel obstruction. Even if not right away, the plants can keep accumulating in her bowels. This is very painful and can kill her.

Use "Cat Away" spray to keep her away from them. You might see your vet about what is causing her pica.(Eating non consumable things). Sometimes it is caused by a lack of nutrients. Take care...

Hmmm What if you try to grow catnip or some other safe grass to take her attention off the silks? But again; if she ingests too much of even the safe plants she WILL vomit... :(
Reply:try buying her some of that cat grass in a lil pot they sell it at like Petsmart and stuff...try it!
Reply:try to put the plant where they cat cant get into it, try spraying some sour or pepper spray on the plant to repell them from it
Reply:First, get a pot and plant some cat grass. You can get it at Wal-Mart, Petsmart, etc. Second, get some bitter apple or citrus spray (something she doesn't like) and spray it on the silk plants. One or two more bites of that and she will quickly move to the cat grass.
Reply:If she swallows a piece of the silk plant that is big enough to affect her bowl or intestine then you are in trouble but the good news is that you can remedy this problem very easily. Just mix a little vasiline with a lot of tabasco sauce and put some on the areas of the plant that she likes to chew on, before you know it she will not want anything to do with your plants, real or silk! Better to lose a few leaves than to lose your cat and it works! Good luck!
Reply:yes this is horrible!! Our cat has a slight obsession with eating plastic, if he sees it on the ground or out ANYWHERE, he runs up and starts krinkling it with his mouth and swallows it. One time he swallowed a big enough piece (which was accidentally left out) and he had to have a $800 surgery to remove it from his wind pipe (I don't think this is a risk you'd be willing to take with your pet just so you can have some silk plants out) I'd recommend removing them from their location and replacing it with cat grass, this will teach the cat that this is what you are allowing her to chew on, once she gets accustomed to eating this, place it in a new location which she is easily able to find, then try placing your silk plants back out and see if the cat has been weened off her "addiction" lol. I hope this works out for you, because trust me, the last thing you want is a life threatening piece of silk leaf lodged in your cats wind pipe, it's the scariest thing in the world!! Good luck!
Reply:I have an indoor cat and she chewed all our house plants until the vet told us to get her some GRASS they need grass to help digest their food and keep their digestive tract healthy. You can buy some grass seed and plant it or you can buy cat grass at your local pet store.

the grass works!! our cat has quit chewing all our plants and chews the grass often(just place it on the floor next to the food bowl).

Be aware that your cat may vomit after eating the grass this is normal like i said it is for their digestion it helps with hair balls too. cheep easy it works!!
Reply:For Sure is right on the money, yes it can hurt her, it may cause bowel instruction.

Instead of using silk plants because she was eating your real plants, perhaps you should purchase some safe plants that are ok for her to nibble on.
