What is the perfect "hostess gift" for the perfect hostess?

I am often invited to a friend's for dinner. She is a perfect hostess. I tried bringing a home made dish, but her dinners and deserts are always perfect and put mine to shame. I tried flowers, and she always has a better table arrangement!!! I am ashamed to bring anything since I am often embarrased when compared to what she already does! I want to show my appreciation for being invited. Any sugguestions would help, as "tis the season" and I am confident she will invite me to others.

I was in this same dilema and ended up bringing a jarred, scented candle and a pound of prepackaged, ground cinnabon flavored Folgers specialty coffee.--if she had a coffee bean grinder I would buy the beans but I'm not sure so I got the ground variety. I have comfort in the fact that these are consumable items that will be used up and not haunt her for years to come. I placed both items together into one nice gift bag so I looked really cute walking up with a pretty bag. --not really but that's the idea, right?

--a nice bottle of wine could be nice

or both
Reply:i was in a similar situation. And then after awhile the hostess told me not to bring anything, b/c the last cake I brounght they had to throw it away. So i stop bringing things for her, but the children always enjoyed whatever I bring.
Reply:easy. a mug that says "HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTESS!"
Reply:how about one of those flower or wine of the month clubs.
Reply:A Twinkie.
Reply:Some nice bath products gathered in a cute container/basket.

Perhaps a container of holiday cookies on a lovely tray she can use later. Or flavored "stir sticks" that are attractively packaged.

Monogrammed note cards or stationary is always useful. I make my own embossed ones %26amp; include a fancy quill pen %26amp; inkwell for my crafty friends or just a nice silver/gold ink and pen for others.

A nice set of hand towels with a monogram or holiday emblems with a set of specialty or decorative soaps.
