Can't decide if tall or short arrangements look better? the centerpieces will be fresh flowers.
Centerpieces?
I would say tall on the main table and short on the other. That way the main one stands out, and really it will look beautiful!

Reply:I personaly like tall arrangements that are lifted up off the table, like on a stand-- that way everyone at the table can see eachother and socialize. I have been to many weddings were the flowers were right at eye level and you couldn't see everyone you were sitting with.... I'm getting married next july and mine are on big stand like 4 feet off the table....
Reply:Try a short arrangement with maybe a few tall pieces in the center. I'm not sure what flowers they consist of so that's about all I can tell you. You can even add some little lights for a bit of sparkle if it goes with the rest of the wedding
Reply:I would suggest short arrangement. It would be great with your budget and won't obstruct the conversation of your guest.
Reply:roses with stargazers, they are both short but the stargazers are really elegant and make a nice round centerpiece for the round tables. You need your guests to be able to socialize at the table without having to look through stems and leaves.
Reply:Not sure of what type table setting you are having, but keep in mind if you do tall, people might not be able to see over them. During dinner people will be socializing and I had a problem at one wedding where you couldn't talk to the people across the table because the center piece was in the way. So I would say short
Reply:For lilies and roses I believe you said, i'd definitely go with shorter arrangement.
Best of luck.
Reply:Short ones would be better so the guests at the table can see each other while they are talking. Congrats.
Reply:It depends. For alto of flowers per table a short one would be nice and for just a few flowers a tall one would be better.
Reply:don't obstruct the view of your guests at the table
topiaries are nice for tall or arrangements on skinny pedestals
or keep em low
Reply:it depends on alot of things, are you having a more causal or elegant reception? Large rounds or long banquet style tables? What sort of flowers?
I find with a casual reception with round seating around 8 a low centerpiece is nice, tall centerpiece works well for a more fancy wedding (needs to be tall enough so people can see each other)
For long table I tend to like a mix of both low and high to add dimension and break up the length of the table.
Reply:Leave the centerpieces short/tall enough to be seen but not hinder anyone's view of their table mates or wedding party. BEST OF LUCK!

Would this be a bad Valentine's gift?
Okay, so i never seem to come up with really good gift ideas for my boyfriend, and for Valentine's it's especially hard b/c he gets it easy..flowers for me ect. So, would this be a bad idea? I want to get an Edible Arrangement basket delivered to his dorm at school. He loves fruit..eats it all the time, hes a very healthy apetite and whatnot. Is that like really lame to send though? We're 19%26amp;20 and have been dating over 2 years now.
Also, if anyone has any coupon codes that would work on that website, or any other ideas it would all be appreciated! Thanks for your time :)
Would this be a bad Valentine's gift?
My boyfriend is a health food fanatic too! I think thats a great idea...I was having a hard time w/ a v-day gift too. Go for it, especially since you know he'll eat it. Why dont you like bake him some stuff w/ fruit in it?
Reply:For coupons on all kinds of merchandise check out http://www.couponseek.net
For example, there is a coupon book which i use alot. You can go out to a fancy restaurant and eat out half price. Not just once, 20-30 times easy if your city's book has many coupons.
Posters make good gifts. Guys like sports. He might like a basketball or football poster from http://www.viewposters.com or he might like other subjects such as movies, music, landscapes, photography or even painting art. viewposters has it all.

Reception Centerpieces - What do you think?
For our reception, we will be having long rectangular tables.
In the center of each table, we will have a bud vase with dark purple %26amp; white tulips (or roses, perhaps) like this photo:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n286/...
and approx. a foot down the table from the bud vase, on each side, will be a short rectangular arrangement with purple and white rose buds placed in a clear glass container (like in the photo above) with light blue glass stones replacing the water.
We want to do this with silk flowers (high quality silks), but don't want them to look tacky. I'm basically looking for your input, and tips/suggestions on making the arrangements look more "authentic"?
Also, I haven't been able to find any of the rectangular glass "boxes," like in that photo, so I would also love suggestions on where to purchase those!
Thanks much!
Reception Centerpieces - What do you think?
I think they look great! I'm not sure where you can find those rectangular glass boxes, but I do have a little advice about your ribbon idea! I'm doing very similar arrangements for my centerpieces...
We found that the best ribbon for this is the ribbon that has wire in it along the edges. It holds it's shape very well! And, since the ribbon refuses to stay in place around the vases, a little piece of double sided tape works wonders to help it stick and isn't noticeable at all!
Good luck!
Reply:I love it! I would add though, that it might look a little different with silk flowers. If it had fresh flowers, I think it would be better. Either way, very nice.
Reply:Walmart actually has a lot of good shapes of vases. I would check there first because they will most likely be the least expensive. I actually found mine at michaels ($2 each) but they weren't rectangle.
Reply:If you are on a budget I would do rose petals in the rectangles with floating candles..and I would use a real flower in the tall cylinders...u can purchase them whole sale :) it would be easy and inexpensive!
Reply:I think it looks great. Dont stress enjoy it. Congrats!!!!!!!!!

Can't beat $2.16 per vase!
Shop around for your silk flowers to see which ones look better to YOU. Looking online is not going to help because photography can make anything look good.
Reply:You could buy those online from http://www.onlineflowers.com/
they have a pretty good selection and things that will admire your tast. But the only problem is that it is online, sorry...
Reply:I've seen those rectangular boxes at Target (I think they were around 7 or 8 bucks each). Those arrangements are very beautiful. Is there a reason you want silk instead of real? Honestly, silk tulips or roses are going to run around the same amount of $$. If you must have silk flowers, you can make them look more authentic with acrylic "water." They sell it in the flower arranging sections of Michael's and A.C.Moore.
Reply:Best sources for silk flowers are Garden Ridge, Old Time Pottery, Micheal's Crafts, Jo Ann Fabrics, and Walmart. Also, look on eBay.
Reply:have you thought of those beautiful floating candles? i've seen those used at several weddings with the same description you gave almost. you can do any kinds of decorations to make them go with just about anything. but i'm just a dude so what do i know lol.
Reply:I would look at Pottery Barn or Flower Factory. Either one should have what you are looking for. I think the arrangements look beautiful. If you use high quality silks, they will look authentic without doing anything. If you want them to look real, put some water in the vases or some clear acrylic. The only problem with the acrylic is then the flowers are permanently placed in the vases.

Can I have curly willow or similar type branches for summer wedding?
My fiance requested that our centerpieces be tall and possibly branches such as curly willow or pussy willow. Our colors are red, black and white so he suggested that the branches be in one of those colors. I've only seen this done in fall or winter weddings since the season matches the decor. However, we have a lot of home decor with these types of branches in our own home and LOVE how they look. Would it be appropriate for an August wedding? I'm not much of a flower person, I love flowers in gardens but not in bouquets so much. I'd take branches and/or candles any day. Also, we're trying to stay on a small wedding floral budget and hopefully I can make these centerpieces myself.
Would it be fine or would it look completely out of season? Know of any good pictures online that I could get ideas from?
Also, would guests want to as a take-home centerpiece? Not sure what we'd do with 15 centerpieces. We love these branch arrangements, but not that many!
Thanks!
Can I have curly willow or similar type branches for summer wedding?
I think that it could be done in a summer-y way :) Maybe you could add small flowers/greenery? If it is what you want, then the two of you should go for it! In my family, people always get excited about who gets to take centerpieces home, regardless of what they are lol. Even if your guests don't want them, you could try to sell them or even donate them to a place that would like them as decorations or props?
Good luck!
Reply:they would be beautiful and dead easy for you to do yourself! if your vases are clear then get clear glass beads to hold the branches in place or if you are using pottery vases you can use regular old gravel to hold the branches in place! if you are lucky enough to have 'frogs' use those!
michaels or joanns or any other big box craft shop should be able to supply you with the branches and the dollar stores should have vases! good luck and happy happy wedding!
Reply:It'll be fine. If you want them to look more summery then just take some small silk flowers and floral wire and add them to the branches so they look like a blossoming tree.
Guests may or may not decide to take home the centerpieces. If they decide not to you can always sell them or just pitch them.

Does anyone know anything about the Natraj plant from India?
There is a plant that grows in India it is called Natraj, and it somewhat resembles the Staghorn fern here in the US. I work in a flower shop and we got a portion of the dried material to use in arrangements a while back, but no one seems to know what plant it comes from or where you can get more of it. Any info would be very useful.
Does anyone know anything about the Natraj plant from India?
Horticulture books about plants grown in India at any Library.
Reply:I have never heard of such a plant in India... may be u send a pic... will let u know if its got someother name. Coz Natraj is a God's name and very commonly used as a persons name....so it might just have been a misunderstanding.... like NATRAJ PLANTS... a exporters name....or something like that also.

Valentine's Help!?
My boyfriend%26amp;I Have been dating for over 2 1/2 years now, and he's away at college so i won't see him on valentines. I always give 'bad' gifts (He never says it but i know i do!) so i was wondering if sending an Edible Arrangement delivered to his dorm would be dumb,i know we both enjoy them but ive never sent one. And im worried his friends would make fun of him for getting fruit shaped like flowers!
Anyone know what else i could send him? Other than like flowers or something raunchy (nudes etc). He's getting flowers for me so i dont wanna give him the same thing! I also wanted to get him something not cheap...Any ideas that would 'blow him away' would be awesome. I really want him to feel special.
Valentine's Help!?
You could send him something edible. If his friends were real friends they wouldn't laugh. You could also write him a poem or song.
Reply:You could check out the website - http://www.ExpressionPrints.com - it allows you to upload a photo of your own or use one from their gallery. Then you can add text such as a personal message or love poem on top of the image and it even allows you to apply effects to the photo. Nice site to create a really personalized photo gift for someone special in your life.

Wedding centerpieces/orchids - help!!!?!?
I am getting married in August and the reception is in an outdoor/indoor high peak tent. Since the ceilings are very high I bought eiffel tower vases, which are the tall skinny vases. I think they're 16". Me and my fiance met b/c of a trip to jamaica that we both happened to go on and we really want to incorporate jamaica into the wedding in an elegant way. I have quite a few ideas so far but I'm stuck w/ the centerpieces. I've seen alot of great ideas and tips on here but nonetheless - I want to use pretty much all white flowers, orchids, hibiscus, hydrangea..i saw this pic on google
http://i.ivillage.com/relationships/wedd...
and really love it..my vases dont have the open top like that though. can someone tell me what they think this arrangement contains? I can't figure it all out..also any tips on where to purchase inexpensive but nice silk flowers? thank u!! Any other tips are much appreciated as well!!
Wedding centerpieces/orchids - help!!!?!?
They look like a mixture of orchids to me...but I am not positive.
You can try this website for fake flowers. They also sell the eiffel tower vases...so they may be able to offer you some ideas/accessories for your centerpieces.

Good luck :)
Reply:Hard to tell exactly, maybe orchids, some willow...hmmmm Here's an arrangement in the small mouth Eiffel tower vase. Change the flowers to Orchids and some Stockflower and I think it would be very pretty. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2355/2228...

Reply:The picture is just so hard to tell. It's really small. I'm using orchids also. You may want to consider some other flowers as well to mix in. Gladiolus for instance are striking, tall %26amp; available in white:
http://www.americanmeadows.com/Images/pr...

Also, definitely consider using stock as a filler because they are cheaper %26amp; really gorgeous:
http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/THEMES/S...
You probably don't want everything to be tall though. You need some shorter flowers that will add depth to it as well, which is easy. I really like spider mums in white. The following pic is not white but they're great for filler:

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention Dahlias. I'm using those also to contrast with the height of my centerpieces and the orchid sprays:
